Getting Started:

  • Create a design based on how large or small you want it to be.
  • Cut the wood to the appropriate size.
  • Sand the wood until its smooth and splinter free.
  • Attach the legs using the L brackets that you purchased as well as the carriage bolts and nuts. If the desk is a bit wobbly use the extra scrap pieces of wood to further anchor the legs to the desk.
  • Before attaching the keyboard shelf, make sure you’ve determined a comfortable resting place for it and mark it with your pencil. Then, using the smaller plank of wood that you have, attach the sliders and make sure they are secured tightly with screws.
  • Stain the desk if you’d like with a rag. Dip it in the stain and use circular motions to buff it along with the grain. Once the stain has completely dried determine if you’ll need a second coat and then you can then apply the varnish. Again, wait until it dries.

Wooden Computer Desk
The process for making a computer desk is relatively easy and can be done in a day or a weekend depending on how long it takes for the varnish and stain to completely dry. If you’ve never built anything of this magnitude before you can enlist the help of others to assist you. It may be a good idea to get help even if you know what you’re doing just to hold the wood steady so you can apply the screws.

You can be as creative and stylish as you’d like with your new computer desk. You can go one step further and add drawers or additional shelving to fit your needs and your budget.
